In composite manufacturing, air inevitably enters the resin system during mixing, filler addition and fiber impregnation. If it is not released before cure, this entrapped air leaves behind voids, pinholes and surface defects that weaken the part and spoil its finish. Defoamers and air release additives solve this by helping micro-bubbles merge and rise quickly to the surface, while breaking down any foam that forms there. The result is dense, uniform, defect-free parts across gelcoat, laminating, RTM and pultrusion processes. Silicone-free grades achieve this without compromising inter-coat adhesion, which makes them the preferred choice for gelcoats and multi-layer laminates.
The table below lists our most widely used defoamers and air release additives together with their key properties. For more information on these products, or on grades not listed here, please get in touch with us.
